Non Skid Tape and Other Tapes for Safety

Whether you have a need to prevent slipping around your business or home, there are many businesses that can provide a variety of products to help increase the safety and help prevent dangerous falls that cause injury. One of the most popular products is non skid tape.

It is an adhesive-backed tape that has a coarse grit surface that feels much like sandpaper. It is a flexible vinyl material that is filled with a gritty mineral abrasive that delivers traction on flooring in work areas, stairs, ramps, construction equipment, transportation vehicles, and pool areas. Its most popular color is black, but you can find it other solid colors, as well as, stripes. We even have a glow in the dark version! It is designed to work both indoors and outdoors. Once installed the product is pretty much unaffected by environmental conditions, including wet areas.

Another great product is photoluminescent tape or glow tape. It is a flexible polyester laminated photoluminescent film coated with a permanent acrylic adhesive. The pigments absorb and store energy form normal, ambient light. In sudden darkness, the tape is immediately visible. You can use them in darkrooms, on set or the theatre, walls, handrails, columns, around doors, and along baseboards. A fully charged piece can glow for 6 hours, 10 hours, or 24 hours, depending on the grade purchased.

This tape has excellent resistance to UV light and does not show significant degradation when used outdoors. Some other uses for this product are on sporting goods, novelties, trims, and for special effects.

There are a variety of other tapes that are used for safety, such as, colored or striped vinyl tapes to mark off areas, barricade tapes, finger protection tape, and reflective tapes.

Make sure to look at the application you are using the non skid tape in. There are different grit levels that are used for different places. For example you would not want to purchase regular non skid tape for your bathtub as it would tear your skin on your feet. They make a non abrasive non skid tape that you can place in the bathtub and or on docks/pool sides to prevent slip and fall situations.

There are different adhesive levels as well some work better indoors then outdoors as they are specifically made for uv, water, and high and low temperatures. You do not want to use a indoor non skid tape in an outdoor application because over time the adhesive will begin to loosen and roll causing a tripping situation itself. Make sure you contact a specialist before you purchase a product so that you get the right product for your specific application!
